I am not sure if I have previously shared this with you, but I am 2 classes in to coaching kids soccer with the Warrior Athletes organization!
I coach 2 classes once a week from 5:00-6:15pm. The first class consists of 6, 2 year old boys. They are all so adorable! The second class is for 3-4 year olds, this group listens very well and are great to coach! They are definitely a handful but I am hoping to get the hang of keeping them in line as I continue.
The goals for each lesson are to incorporate as many similar movements to soccer as possible, of course putting them in to simpler terms that will make the lessons enjoyable for the kids!
The kids move through an obstacle course that teaches them the basic moves to soccer, like dribbling the ball with light kicks, throwing the ball from over their heads instead of from in front of their chest and foot movements and patterns by getting them to weave in between small pylons.
Because it has been so hot out lately, I make sure I am giving myself and the kids plenty of drink breaks, all the running they do is tiring for their little feet so they also get little breaks after they have taken their turns going through the obstacle course. I even get the odd child asking if they can get a drink, which then leads to every other child wanting a drink, this happens almost every 5 minutes! :D
I like to wrap up the lesson with a short game and a little cheer, keeping the kids excited for the next lesson.
I will make sure to keep you updated on this journey as well!!
Until next time!

Hi CJ,
ReplyDeleteI feel really good after reading your blog that you got the wonderful opportunity to work with a kids. After reading it I feel that you are also in deep love with the kids just as in the way I am as you said they all are adorable. Working with the kids is a kind of more fun so rather then feeling the stress of work we feel fresh after the work so you are really lucky for that. After reading your blog I feel that you are so caring because eyou just don't do your work of teaching them the soccer but in addition to that you also care for their health by asking them to drink water. You are trying to become a great coach by making the points in the as simplest way as possible and by which kids can grab it easily and that will make them to learn all the movements easily and as early as possible. You are great and doing wonderful job and I hope you still put many more of your experiences with the sweet kids because I am so curious to know about that.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful experience.

Hi CJ!!
ReplyDeleteI was very excited to know about your soccer coaching classes for the little kids. You must be having a great time working with this delightful age group. I am sure that you will be able to learn and gain more knowledge and experience through this classes. It is very thoughtful of you to make the lessons simple and entertaining to engage these little kids. Being a mom of two, I can understand how hard it would be to manage these little cutie pies and to make them follow the course of the class. Good to know that you are making sure that they are being hydrated and in good shape to focus on the lessons. I loved the picture that you shared on this blog, it reveals how excited they are to learn from you. Keep up your great work and would like to wish you all success in this career!!
