Goals

Throughout this blog I will be discussing accomplishments and goals. Throughout this school year I have set multiple goals for myself that connect with school, personal gains and even work. Did I accomplish them all? No, I have multiple goals for myself, some that I accomplished easily and quickly, others I never got close to. That does not mean I stopped trying, I kept going and working on myself and different goals. I even altered goals I did not accomplish the first time so I could know I could accomplish them the second time around. I have heard so many stories where people have set goals and worked hard at trying to accomplish them and have slipped out of routine and end up having to start over. Those who do this then believe they are unable to accomplish that goal at all. Your goals can be as big or as small as you want them to be, but do not sell yourself short because you think its something you are unable to achieve, or is out of your reach. Once you have an idea...

I am not sure if I have previously shared this with you, but I am 2 classes in to coaching kids soccer with the Warrior Athletes organization! I coach 2 classes once a week from 5:00-6:15pm. The first class consists of 6, 2 year old boys. They are all so adorable!  The second class is for 3-4 year olds, this group listens very well and are great to coach!  They are definitely a handful but I am hoping to get the hang of keeping them in line as I continue. The goals for each lesson are to incorporate as many similar movements to soccer as possible, of course putting them in to simpler terms that will make the lessons enjoyable for the kids! The kids move through an obstacle course that teaches them the basic moves to soccer, like dribbling the ball with light kicks, throwing the ball from over their heads instead of from in front of their chest and foot movements and patterns by getting them to weave in between small pylons. Because it has been so hot out l...
It is time to answer some questions!! A couple questions I have been asked throughout my placement are: Overall, how do you like working with the kids? Is it easier to motivate kids compared to adults? What ways have you found to motivate the children to keep moving? Working with kids is a very enjoyable experience! It is not always the best experience though, some of the younger kids require a little bit more attention because they do not always understand what you are asking them to do. They can also be very shy so they want to go back to their parents instead of working with you, some children do not listen as well as others and will run off, this causes a slight chain reaction and the next thing you know your whole class is gone. It really is a task to keep some of them paying attention. To motivate the kids I like to try and use as much imagination as possible, sometimes even being silly helps the kids become more interested. For some of the activities the kids enj...

Time Management part 2

Hello again! It is time to answer the question; when will I have time to do all the extra work? Like i stated in the previous blog time management is a difficult task for many people, so here are some tips of my own to help you along! Write your schedule down on a weekly calender - this allows you to see your entire week Block off sections for assignments ans study time - either after class or inbetween, I prefer inbetween so I have more time when I get home. Do not leave all of your assignments until the same day, complete them when they are assigned - if you leave them until later you will have a pile of work to do and they won't be as well done as you would' liked Be clear with your job and your placement on your available days - don't double book your work and placement, and try not to book them on one of your scheduled study days Tell someone your plan - your mom, roomate, best friend or boyfriend, tell someone your plan for the day so you can think about...

Time Management

Welcome back! There seems to be a commonly asked question when I speak to people about being in school, having a job and having a placement, and that question is: How does one balance school work, placement and a job?                                                                                   Being able to balance school work, placement and a job is not the easiest. Some people may have a very hard time trying to find a happy medium between the three. As I had mentioned before I am currently at The Barbell Academy coaching a kids CrossFit class for one of my placements. As of this first week of June, I will become an even busier student, this is due ...
Hello again! I have decided to write about one specific goal that I have made for myself while I am at my placement. So as I have previously told you, I am currently volunteering at the Barbell Academy to assist with kids crossfit classes. These classes range from helping kids of ages 2-15, of course all being in age appropriate classes. At the gym we work on getting the kids active and moving them through their full ROM, (for those of you that are unfamiliar with ROM, it is an acronym for Range Of Motion) we do this by taking the kids through different exercises some molded into games. At the moment I am just assisting the coach because I am not yet certified to legally coach a class. Although I am working on becoming certified by two assosiations, one being CanFitPro, so I am able to work with groups, and the other being CSEP. CSEP is the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. This certification will allow me to work in gyms, schools, recreational centers and other fitness estab...
